One hospitalized, eight displaced in Rochester fire

Rochester, N.Y. – A multi-unit home is unlivable and one person was hospitalized following a fire Saturday night.
At approximately 10:37 p.m., the Rochester Fire Department was dispatched to 635 West Main Street for a reported house fire.
While en route they received reports of people trapped in the building. The first fire engine arrived in just over three minutes and found a fire on the first and second floors of an apartment house, according to fire officials.
One woman inside the rear apartment on the second floor could not exit the building due to the extent of the fire.
Firefighters entered the smoke filled apartment and removed the woman from the building back down a ladder. She was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries, according to firefighters.
The extent of her injuries are unknown.
The fire caused damage to all three floors of the building making it temporarily uninhabitable. Eight people were displaced by the fire and the Red Cross is assisting some of them with housing.
