Bill that would create minimum nurse to patient ratios at hospitals, nursing homes moves out of committee

ROCHESTER, N.Y.  — A bill aimed at putting more nurses into hospitals and long-term care facilities took a step forward in the State Assembly Tuesday.
The bill would create a minimum nurse-to-patient ratio for hospitals and nursing homes.
The bill’s sponsor, Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, NY-100), says the bill moved out of the Assembly Health Committee Tuesday morning.

The bill still has to make it through two more committees before going to a vote in the full Assembly.
It still hasn’t moved in the Senate.
Also on Tuesday, a bill that would expand nursing home visitation rules moved out of committee.
