A 9-year-old boy died when a dirt bike driven by his father crashed Sunday afternoon in Rochester.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on Kilmar Street near Benjamin Franklin High School.
At an early evening press briefing, Rochester Police Capt. Frank Umbrino said it appeared that just prior to the crash, the bike — on which the boy was a passenger — went up onto a walkway, causing the father to lose control of the vehicle.
The child suffered traumatic injuries when the bike went down and was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The father may have suffered some minor injuries, Umbrino said, “But physically he’s OK.”
Police do not believe that the father or the child were wearing helmets, he said.
