FBI arrests two Oregon brothers for alleged role in U.S. Capitol riot

PORTLAND, Ore. — FBI agents have arrested two brothers in Oregon, alleging they committed criminal attacks during the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Agents arrested 24-year-old Matthew Klein in Sherwood and his brother, 21-year-old Jonathanpeter Klein, near Heppner on Tuesday.
They were arrested without incident.
The FBI said it used a photo of the brothers taken Jan. 5 to help them identify the two in video and pictures taken the next day at the Capitol.
The brothers face charges of conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder, destruction of government property, entering a restricted building, and disorderly conduct.
The brothers appeared in an Oregon courtroom Wednesday. The FBI said their cases will be transferred to Washington, D.C.
Portland police criminally cited Matthew Klein last September for unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm in public, according to court documents. Police said a caravan of vehicles left Delta Park after a rally and they pulled over a truck Klein was in for a traffic violation.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said Klein’s next court date on the citation is set for next month.
