Man shot during 1991 Rochester robbery dies from complications caused by injuries

Rochester, N.Y. – A man injured in a shooting in 1991 has died from injuries sustained in that incident, Rochester Police say.

Rasheem Broughton, 45, was shot in the neck on Nov. 15, 1991 in the course of a robbery.

He died on Feb. 23; his death was ruled a homicide caused by complications from his wounds sustained in that shooting.

Due to FBI reporting standards, Rochester Police say Broughton’s death is being reported as a 2021 homicide. Counting Broughton’s case, that brings the total number of 2021 homicides to date to 21.

An arrest was made in the case the day after Broughton was shot in 1991. The defendant pleaded guilty to attempted murder and robbery and was sentenced to 8-25 years in prison. He was released in 2008 and maxed out of parole in 2016.

Police say no additional charges will be filed in the case.
