Two men shot at Rochester intersection

Wednesday around 9 p.m. a man in his 20s was shot at the intersection of Jay and Orchard Street. A man was transported to the hospital and later was pronounced dead.

According to Rochester Police Capt. Frank Umbrino, during the shooting incident another man in his 30s, was shot at the scene. One man was in a vehicle while the other was standing outside of it. At least two suspects in a vehicle drove by, slowed down, and fired multiple times.

“I’ve been on 29 years and I can’t even come close to coming up with a time period where we’ve had as many shootings with multiple suspects with multiple weapons that are this brazen to create havoc in the streets,” Umbrino said. “I’ve never seen anything like this in my 29 years.”

According to Umbrino, at this point, Wednesday’s homicide does not appear connected to a recent spate of shootings on the southwest side, though he said most of the violence does not appear random.

“People have got to stop getting gunned down in the streets. Families need to be able to feel safe in having their kids play in the front yard,” he said. “It’s like a war zone lately.”

At this time no suspects are in custody.
