Two charged in Staten Island gang slay, NYPD says

Two men were arrested on Thursday in connection to the fatal shooting of a Staten Island gang member, police said.

Kevin Soto, 26, and Victor Lorenza, 24, were taken into custody at their Staten Island homes and charged with murder and manslaughter, with Lorenza also charged with gun possession and Soto also charged with hindering prosecution and criminal facilitation.

They are accused of killing Michael Evans, a member of the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation gang, on the afternoon of May 9 on Beach St. near Union Place in Stapleton — steps away from Eden II, a school for autistic children, police said.

The suspects, who were driving a gray BMW, spotted the victim on the street, according to police. One of the men got out and fired at Evan before both suspects got back in the car and drove off.

Evans, who was shot in the chest, was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center but could not be saved.

The shooting prompted a school lockdown that lasted an hour.

Lorenza has sealed arrests on his record and Soto has arrests for drugs and reckless endangerment.
