President Biden misrepresents AR-15 facts while campaigning in Pennsylvania against gun violence

During a campaign-style rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday afternoon, President Joe Biden made many silly mistakes about guns.

During his trip to Wilkes-Barre, Vice President Biden promoted his “Safer America” program, the primary goals of which are to discourage criminal behavior and to assist law enforcement. In addition, Biden’s ideas are targeted at tightening up gun laws and expanding background checks.

Biden made an unsubstantiated remark regarding the rate at which AR-15s can fire bullets during his speech.

“Do you realize the bullet out of an AR-15 travels five times as rapidly as a bullet shot out of any other gun?” Biden asked rhetorically during his speech.

It is not clear what the President was referring to, but in general, AR-15s are not known for having the fastest firing rate.

The study on the fastest rifle cartridges was conducted in June by the hunting gear seller Field and Stream. Nevertheless, AR-15 rounds were not included in their list.

Additionally, Biden said, incorrectly, that “AR-15s just rip the body apart.” The type of injury caused by a gunshot depends on the bullets that are used.

During his speech on Tuesday, Biden also made fun of supporters of the Second Amendment, sarcastically referring to them as “brave” for their conviction that guns are an effective method of self-defense.

“For those brave right-wing Americans who say it’s all about keeping America independent and safe, if you want to fight against the country, you need an F-15,” Biden said mockingly. “You need something more than a gun.”
