The remains of a newborn baby were discovered by employees sorting waste at a recycling plant in the Bronx on Wednesday, according to the police.
At around nine in the morning, employees at the city Department of Environmental Protection plant on Ryawa Avenue in Hunts Point discovered a limb belonging to a newborn that had been cut off at the knee but still had the foot attached.
The workers quickly stopped the conveyor belt, contacted the police, and searched the area, but they did not find any other remains.
The office of the city’s medical examiner will determine the cause of the baby’s death.
Authorities are investigating.
