Approval granted for Main Street Lofts demolitions

A developer in Cincinnati wants to demolish a two-story wood home and a lengthy one-story yellow brick and masonry business building at 1681 Main and a three-story tan-brick commercial building and a one-story vehicle garage and warehouse complex at 1689 Main.

Both sites, together with 1703 and 1707 Main, are part of the larger site where MVAH Partners of Cincinnati and Belmont Housing Resources for WNY propose to build Main Street Lofts.

On 2.1 acres, between Main Street, Masten Avenue, and East Balcom Street, the $50.6 million project will include a new five-story building with 140 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments and two smaller two-story buildings with seven three-bedroom townhouses.

MVAH is also asking the Buffalo Planning Board for a one-year extension on its subdivision clearance to combine the parcels.

And Hatem A. Hassan is demolishing the one-story concrete block structure housing Sunrise Liquors at 118 William St. to make way for the development of the neighboring Sunrise Market and petrol station.

All three petitions for demolition were authorized.
