82-year-old man and 44-year-old woman thrown into Central Park lake while trying to stop thief
A thief attempted to take a backpack from a 76-year-old woman in Central Park on Monday, and an elderly man and a woman were thrown in the water while attempting to stop the thief, according to the police.
At around 9:15 in the morning, Justin Bonhomme, 25, took an older woman’s bag as she was seated on a bench near the junction of Central Park North and Lenox Avenue, according to the police.
Both the elderly man, aged 82, and the young woman, aged 44, followed the thief in an effort to retrieve the stolen backpack.
According to the authorities, Bonhomme overpowered the two individuals and forced them into the Harlem Meer, which is located in the northeastern section of the park.
Both the old man and the elderly woman were brought to St. Luke’s Hospital to be treated for their individual injuries, which were a cut on the head and an injured arm.
According to the arrest report, Bonhomme was charged with assault as well as petty larceny after he was taken into custody by the police.
