Construction on eight pickleball courts in Monroe County will begin soon

Today, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello made the announcement that construction will soon begin on eight pickleball courts, four of which will be located in Black Creek Park in North Chili and the other four will be located in Mendon Ponds Park.

“Pickleball has become increasingly popular in our area and it’s important for us to modernize our parks with the latest amenities for people of all ages to enjoy,” said County Executive Bello. “This project is the latest in millions of dollars of upgrades to revitalize our parks system for generations to come – thank you to our dedicated Parks staff for their work to make our parks second to none.”

Pickleball, which is a hybrid sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, was named the most popular sport in the United States by NPR in a study that was published in 2022.

“The Parks Department is excited to announce to the pickleball community that eight new courts are being constructed at beautiful Mendon Ponds and Black Creek Parks,” said Monroe County Parks Department Director Patrick Meredith. “We know these new amenities will be enjoyed by many, and having the opportunity to bring new patrons into our parks is what we strive for.”

The Monroe County Parks System will see significant improvements as a result of County Executive Bello’s $7.2 million investment in 2021, which includes this project. At the beginning of the summer of this year, County Executive Bello approved an extra expenditure of $9.4 million to go on with the process of modernizing and improving the county’s parks.

Monroe County has spent a total of $16.6 million on its parks system, which is helping to improve the county’s infrastructure and the quality of life for future generations of residents and visitors.
