Two men died following separate shooting incidents hours apart in same NYC precinct

On Monday, two men in their 35s were reportedly shot to death in two different instances that occurred within a few blocks of each other in Brooklyn.

In the earlier homicide, Eric Rentas, 35, was standing on Euclid Avenue in East New York at Sutter Avenue when two individuals went up to him about 11:35 a.m., the police said. They then shot and killed him.

After arguing with one another for a while, one of them took out a gun and shot Rentas many times in the torso.

After the shooting, the two suspects, who are believed to be in their 20s, raced away and threw the pistol that they had used in the shooting into a nearby garbage can, according to the police and sources.

It was not possible to rescue Rentas.

A witness told the police that the shooter was known throughout the neighborhood for being hostile to the residents and putting their safety at risk.

The Rentas family used to call this area of the Bronx home, but they have since relocated to the Morris Heights neighborhood.

Several hours later, at around 5:20 p.m., the police reported that another man, age 35, was shot. This time, the shooting occurred in Cypress Hills, on Ridgewood Avenue, near Autumn Avenue.

The victim had a single gunshot wound to the back.

He was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he later died.

His identity was not revealed as police worked to track down his family.

No one has been taken into custody in connection with any of the homicides.
