Open Door Mission in Rochester is looking for help this winter season

November through April marks Open Door Mission’s peak season, and as temperatures plummet, the influx of shelter seekers is on the rise. Robert Williams, Vice President of Operations, reports that the shelter is witnessing an unprecedented surge in occupancy.

“We’ve consistently had nightly numbers in the 90s for shelter occupants, though our building can accommodate around 99 individuals. We’re consistently in the low 90s,” Williams noted.

Regardless of the weather, the shelter continually requires additional resources, but the need intensifies during the winter months.

Williams emphasized, “We are in dire need of hats, gloves, coats, scarves, and any items that can provide warmth to those exposed to the elements. If you wish to contribute financially, please visit our website, as the funds you provide are invaluable for meeting our current needs.”

He also stressed that Open Door Mission stands ready to assist anyone in need.

“We want the community to be aware that we are here to offer support. Anyone seeking refuge from the cold is welcome,” he affirmed.

For those looking to make physical donations, the shelter is located at 20 North Plymouth Ave. Operating hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM.
