Amazon employees voted against unionizing

According to findings compiled by the National Labor Relations Board on Tuesday, Amazon employees in upstate New York voted against unionization by about a 2:1 ratio.

Of the more than 900 employees who were eligible to vote, 406 opposed unionization and 206 supported it. Thirty-one votes were contested, and four were nullified.

The defeat comes six months after the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) won a historic vote to organize the first-ever collective bargaining unit at the Staten Island, New York headquarters of the online retail behemoth.

People who wanted to win a second time saw the most recent vote as a big obstacle.

Workers at Amazon’s facility in Castleton-on-Hudson, New York, south of Albany, participated in the count on Tuesday.
