Burglar who broke into a Florida home arrested after a man walking his dog noticed a shattered window and a blood trail
An injured burglary suspect was found when a dog walker in Florida followed a trail of blood inside his neighbor’s house on Tuesday morning, according to investigators.
The man told the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office that he saw that his neighbor’s window had been shattered and that it looked like there was blood on the front door of the house.
According to the police, the responding deputies entered the residence and discovered a guy laying on a bed covered in blood. The victim was eventually identified as Jonathan Leaf, and he was 32 years old.
The sheriff’s office said that when Leaf woke up while the officers were inside the residence, he informed them he “was unsure of the previous night’s events.”
The deputies said that it seemed like Leaf had decided to get into the house by smashing through a large bay window.
“During his attempts to get inside, Leaf’s arm was severely cut by the broken glass, leading to his trail of blood across the front of the residence and on the interior,” the sheriff’s office said.
According to the police, Leaf likely passed out on the bed as a result of the intense discomfort and the loss of blood before the arrival of the deputies.
Leaf received stitches at a hospital before being taken to the Brevard County Jail.
At the time of the event, there was no one at the residence.
Leaf was arrested and charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and criminal mischief. The amount of his bail was set at $17,000.
