Cartons For Christmas initiative helps people in need during holidays
During the Christmas season of each year, the community of Spencerport goes out to assist local families that are having difficulty making ends meet. Cartons For Christmas is the name of the project. Churches, schools, community service groups, companies, and people of all ages from the surrounding community all provide their support.
“Last year, we served 110 local families by providing gift cards, some food, and 176 toys for young children. This year we return to our normal practice of requesting food donations and inviting volunteers to participate. Email [email protected].”
Donations of cash and gift cards may be dropped off at the St. John’s Parish Center located at 55 Martha Street in Spencerport between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, between November 1 and November 22. For other scheduling options, please email [email protected] or send a text message to 585-750-5341. If you are paying with a check, please make it out to “Cartons For Christmas.”
On Friday, December 2, from 3 to 6 p.m., there will be an Open House in the gym of the St. John’s school building, which is located off Martha Street, to take donations of non-expired food items (please no glass).
Donations of frozen turkeys may be dropped off at the St. John’s school building on Saturday, December 3, at 12:30 p.m.
Give a local youngster a reason to smile by giving them a gift or toy. To choose an angel from the “Toy Tree,” beginning on November 14, visit any of our three Toy Tree locations:
- Fowler’s Canaltown Wine & Spirits, 377 South Union Street
- The Unique Shop, 130 South Union Street
- Spencerport Federal Credit Union, 2775 Spencerport Road
The delivery of food cartons will take place throughout December 3.
The Ecumenical Council of area churches has come together to fund and support this initiative.
