City of Rochester announces office closures for Christmas Day

Rochester, New York – The City of Rochester is gearing up for the holiday season, and with it come changes to the operating schedules of various city offices and services. In a recent announcement, the city declared that multiple offices will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2023, in observance of Christmas Day. This closure will affect City Hall, Neighborhood Service Centers, R-Centers, Animal Services, the 311 Call Center, and the Loretta C. Scott Center for Human Services at 57 St. Paul St.

In addition to the office closures, residents should prepare for changes in refuse and recycling collection schedules. There will be a one-day postponement in trash and recycling collection for the entire week following Christmas. This means that residents should expect their refuse and recycling to be collected a day later than their usual schedule.

The city’s public libraries will also be observing the holiday. All Rochester Public Libraries are scheduled to close starting on Friday, December 22, and will not reopen until Tuesday, December 26, resuming their regular operating hours.

These schedule changes are part of Mayor Malik D. Evans’ administration’s ongoing commitment to transparency and effective communication with the public. The administration emphasizes its dedication to building a safe, equitable, and prosperous Rochester, offering hope and opportunity for all its residents.

The city employees, in line with the administration’s mission, vision, and values and guided by the “Rochester 2034” plan, are committed to delivering excellent customer service, maintaining transparent management, and practicing cooperative leadership. Their goal is to foster a dynamic community environment that supports growth and development for every individual in Rochester. This holiday schedule adjustment is part of their effort to ensure that city services align with the needs and expectations of the community during this period.
