City of Rochester offers financial assistance to homeowners

As part of its Owner-Occupant Roofing Program, the City of Rochester is giving financial assistance to homeowners who meet the program’s eligibility requirements. There is $2 million available for about 80 homes.

Homeowners who meet the requirements might get up to $35,000 for a single-family house or $45,000 for a two-family home.

Repairs to chimneys, roof flashing, soffits, and venting, as well as any necessary roof repairs, are covered under this assistance. No applications will be accepted for detached garage roofs. Applicants are required to be owner-occupants of a residential property in the city of Rochester that is either a one- or two-family dwelling, and they are required to continue living in the house for at least five years after the repairs are done.

The annual household income of eligible homeowners can’t be more than 80% of the area’s median income (AMI). For the purpose of the calculation, all of the occupants who are 18 years old or older will have their earnings from any and all sources included.

Until Friday, November 18, residents who are interested in applying for this program may pick up a pre-application from the office of their neighborhood’s Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) and submit it.

On Wednesday, November 30, at 2:00 p.m., there will be a drawing conducted at each of the four NSC offices. The drawing will select 20 pre-applications from each of the four NSC offices through a lottery system. Selected property owners will be notified in writing to complete the program application.

“The City remains committed to strengthening neighborhoods by improving the equitable distribution of assistance and giving working families the support they need,” Evans said.
