Crime Stoppers is celebrating after their second annual K9 campaign luncheon brought in their biggest fundraising yet
Crime Stoppers is rejoicing over the success of their second annual K9 campaign luncheon, which has set a new record in fundraising.
Throughout the year, Crime Stoppers organizes several K9 campaigns to support 30 local canine teams.
The latest luncheon included a raffle featuring a guitar from House of Guitars, autographed by Lou Gramm, and even had Lou Gramm himself in attendance!
The event raised over $31,000, a sum that officials say will cover medical procedures, equipment, and the acquisition of new dogs for the canines.
The MCSO’s K9 unit acknowledges that although they receive yearly funding from the county for these expenses, the additional resources from Crime Stoppers are crucial for providing enhanced care for the dogs.
“Our dogs are going in a lot of areas where they can get injured, through the woods,” Monroe County Sheriff’s Office K9 Commander Sgt. Shawn Edwards explained to News 8. “That helps for the expensive costs of vet bills. Some of our dogs have allergies, and the food can be over $100 a bag.”
Furthermore, MCSO’s K9 unit emphasizes that this funding also aids in purchasing new dogs, which can cost over $15,000 each. These dogs undergo a comprehensive fourteen-week training before joining officers and deputies in the field.
Crime Stoppers is optimistic about their future campaigns continuing to provide essential support for the canine teams.
