Driver killed in fiery crash involving Wayne school bus
Webster, New York — An incident on Wednesday afternoon at the crossroads of Lake Road and Route 250 resulted in the death of a motorist, involving a bus from Wayne Central School District.
Authorities reported that the bus, heading east on Lake Road with 22 high school students and three adults aboard, encountered a collision around 1:15 p.m. A Toyota entered the bus’s lane from Route 250.
The Toyota’s driver was pronounced dead. From the bus, one child and one adult “went to the hospital for further assessment.”
Officers noted that by their arrival, the students had proceeded on foot to the subsequent intersection along Lake Road.
The Wayne Central School District shared a statement with 13WHAM shortly before 3 p.m.
On Wednesday afternoon, a bus returning from a high school field trip was involved in an accident. There were 22 students and three adults on the bus.
School officials contacted local police, and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Emergency responders assessed students, and school staff were on the scene for support. No life-threatening injuries were sustained by students or school personnel. One student and one staff member went to the hospital for further assessment.
