Gates hotel shooting incident leaves man injured in his room
Gates, New York – An incident occurred early Saturday morning at the Red Roof Inn in Gates, where a man was injured in his hotel room due to a gunshot. The Gates Police Department has shed light on the details of this alarming situation.
The victim was in his hotel room when an unexpected bullet penetrated his door and struck his leg. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, and he received timely medical treatment.
Upon conducting an investigation, Gates Police officers identified Remington Newton, aged 39, as the suspect. Newton was found in a room adjacent to the victim’s. The police discovered that he was in possession of a handgun lacking serial numbers. It is believed that Newton was indiscriminately discharging his firearm within his own hotel room, resulting in one of the bullets traveling through the wall and hitting the victim.
Subsequently, Newton was taken into custody and faces several charges. These include second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, and first-degree reckless endangerment. Following his arraignment in the Town of Gates Court, Newton is currently detained at Monroe County Jail without the option of bail.
Further investigations revealed that Newton is a predicate felon with a history of prior convictions related to robbery and weapons offenses.
