Homeless man charged with killing a commuter on NYC train

According to the police, a homeless man has been taken into custody in connection with the deadly stabbing of a union steamfitter who was on the L train in Brooklyn on his way home.

After the death of Tommy Bailey, 43-year-old Alvin Charles was arrested and charged with the crime of murder.

According to the police, Bailey, 43, and Charles got into an altercation on an L train that was heading in the direction of Canarsie at around 8:50 p.m. on Friday.

During the altercation between the two men, Charles allegedly brandished a blade and slashed Bailey across the neck as the train pulled into the Atlantic Ave. station, according to the police.

Bailey fell onto the platform, and Charles immediately raced off in the other direction.

The victim was sent to Brookdale University Hospital in an attempt to save his life, but it was to no avail.

Friends said that Bailey was the kind of guy who wouldn’t get into fights, and he worked as a steamfitter for the Local 638 union for more than 20 years.

“This is the last thing that would happen to him,” longtime friend Omari Barnett told the Daily News after Bailey’s death. “He just goes to work. He’s not looking for trouble or getting into fights.”

This year, Bailey is the sixth person to lose their life in the greatest public transportation system in the United States.

According to the police, Charles had three past arrests for the crimes of threatening, assault as a hate crime, and assault.

On Wednesday night, he was restrained with handcuffs both at his ankles and behind his back before being taken away from the 73rd Precinct stationhouse.

He posed for photos by pursing his lips and pretending to blow kisses.

Charles’ arraignment was scheduled to take place in the Brooklyn Criminal Court on Wednesday night.
