Authorities in Florida said a homeless man who was wearing bloodied clothing was taken into custody on Tuesday after stabbing a hiker who had befriended him on a trail for “unknown reasons.”
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the hiker and his wife set up camp on the Florida Natural Scenic Trail in Crestview before meeting the homeless man. The homeless man was subsequently identified as 37-year-old Jonathan Davis. The stabbing occurred after the hiker and his wife met the man.
According to the investigators, Davis stabbed the Ohio resident, who was 45 years old and visiting from out of state, in the abdomen before fleeing the scene. According to the investigators, it is now unknown what motivated the assault.
The wife of the hiker made her way to a location where she could use her mobile phone and then placed a 911 call for assistance. Her spouse was in a serious condition when he was sent to a local hospital, but it was anticipated that he would pull through.
The wife of the victim was able to give a description of the suspect, which helped a Crestview police officer find Davis while he was walking on State Road 85.
Davis was taken into custody on outstanding warrants for burglary and other charges out of Leon County.
During the search, detectives found a bloody knife and blood on Davis’s clothes, according to the sheriff’s office.
The charges against Davis, who is from Havana, include aggravated violence with a dangerous weapon.
