Man who threatened families with a pocketknife at a Central Park carousel faces charges

On Monday, police said that the individual who was accused in connection with brandishing a pocketknife at families who were waiting to ride the carousel in Central Park was charged.

During the unusual incident that took place on Sunday, Damien Greene, 30, was arrested and charged with endangerment, illegal possession of a weapon, and threatening, according to the police.

According to a traveler who spoke to the Daily News on Sunday, the man had been patiently waiting to ride the carousel by himself just south of E. 65th Street when he lost his cool and started pestering youngsters.

“No one knows what set him off,” said Mireya Gomez, who was visiting from Washington, D.C.

The children located their parents and then described the individual to them.

According to the witness, as their enraged father approached Greene, he took the pocketknife out of his pocket and began waving it about.

Greene said that others in the crowd were harassing him because of his sexual orientation when the police came to the park to arrest him.

On Monday evening, his arraignment was scheduled to take place in Manhattan Criminal Court.
