New York state employees to receive back pay for pandemic overtime
New York state employees who dedicated extra hours during the COVID-19 pandemic will soon receive well-deserved back pay.
Governor Kathy Hochul, along with leaders from the Public Employees Federation (PEF) and Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), announced an agreement to award nearly $3 million in back pay. This compensation is directed towards more than 2,100 state employees who worked overtime during the challenging period of the pandemic.
The beneficiaries of this agreement include over 1,700 PEF members and more than 400 members of the CSEA and other unions, as well as unrepresented employees. These workers put in additional hours beyond their regular work schedules during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing significantly to the state’s response to the crisis.
Payments, which will average around $1,375 per employee, are scheduled for the next pay cycle. Employees will receive their compensation on either December 20 or December 28, depending on whether they are on the Administration Payroll (December 20) or Institution Payroll (December 28).
This agreement marks a significant acknowledgment of the hard work and dedication of state employees during an unprecedented global health crisis. The compensation serves not only as a financial reward but also as a symbol of appreciation and recognition for their vital contributions during a time of great need.
