Police asking for help in identifying a man who attacked an NYPD traffic agent over a parking ticket
Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who pushed a NYPD traffic agent onto a vehicle in Brooklyn and punched him several times over a parking ticket.
The traffic agent issued a parking ticket to a Volkswagen GTI parked on Avenue Z near E. 16th Street in Sheepsheard Bay at around 12:50 p.m. on Monday while on duty.
A video that was released by authorities shows the two arguing, with the man approaching close to the traffic agent’s face at one point. After that, he knocks the agent’s hat off his head. The agent then moved closer to the man but maintained an apparent distance by not making physical contact with him.
After the furious driver pushed the agent, a violent altercation broke out between the two of them. Before the video stops, it can be seen that the man is pushing the agent up against a white vehicle that is parked behind the Volkswagen.
Police added that the man punched the agent repeatedly all over his body, but that part can’t be seen in the released video.
The attacker then drove off in a Volkswagen with license plates from the state of New York.
The traffic agent was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island in stable condition.
Anyone who can identify the individual is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
