Rochester youth invited to February 28 community fair offering jobs and pathways to future success

Rochester, New York – Malik D. Evans is inviting young residents and their families to take part in an event designed to connect youth with opportunities that support long-term success. The fifth annual ROC Youth Community Resource and Employment Fair will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, at East High School, located at 1801 E. Main St.

The event is open to youth ages 14 to 21 and their families and will feature nearly 50 community organizations offering employment opportunities, financial education, civic engagement resources, and supportive services. While registration is not required, attendees are encouraged to RSVP online to help organizers plan for attendance.

Connecting Youth to Jobs and Career Pathways

One of the fair’s primary goals is to connect young people with employment opportunities. More than 30 companies and organizations will be present, sharing information about part-time, full-time, and seasonal positions. Participating employers represent industries such as public safety, public service, construction, manufacturing, recreation, and other growing fields.

Youth ages 14 to 20 who are currently enrolled in middle school or high school, or working toward a high school equivalency diploma, will also have the opportunity to learn about paid summer work opportunities through the ROC Youth Employment Network. Staff will be available to assist with applications and provide guidance on eligibility requirements.

Financial Tools and Civic Engagement Resources

In addition to job opportunities, attendees can learn about safe and affordable banking options. Representatives from the City of Rochester’s Office of Financial Empowerment and Bank On Rochester partners will provide information about accounts designed to promote financial stability, security, and long-term financial health.

The fair will also offer civic engagement resources. With assistance from the Monroe County Board of Elections, attendees can register to vote, practice using a voting machine, and learn how to serve as an election inspector, helping build awareness and participation in the democratic process.

Mayor Evans emphasized the importance of bringing multiple resources together in one location to support youth development.

“The ROC Youth Community Resource and Employment Fair is a one-stop shop for young people who are looking to set up a strong foundation for their future. Whether it’s a job, a bank account, or learning how to exercise your right to vote, there are resources to help you,” he said.

Organizers say the event is designed to empower youth with practical tools, connect them to employment pathways, and provide resources that support financial independence and civic involvement. By gathering community partners under one roof, the fair aims to help young residents take meaningful steps toward a prosperous and stable future.
