Sister pleas for prayers as Rochester woman recovers from drive-by shooting

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — A residence on Oakman Street became a crime scene after a woman in her 20s was shot around 10:30 Friday morning, evidenced by bullet holes in the home.

D’Shaylia Givens, the victim’s sister, hurried to the site from the grocery store, only to discover her sister was not there.

“They say she’s stable right now, I guess, but I really won’t know,” Givens stated. “They really don’t get the same information. They seen her leave, but they don’t really know nothing.”

About eight months ago, Givens and her sister had relocated to this neighborhood.

“Since I’ve been here, it’s been quiet,” Givens remarked. “Yeah, there’s shootings and stuff around, but it’s never been intended to my house. She probably wasn’t even the intended target. It’s just wrong place, wrong time. I don’t know.”

According to police, determining if the victim was specifically targeted is still premature in their ongoing investigation.

“What is sometimes talked about as random victims is not always random victims,” said Lt. Greg Bello. “The information that we have is not always random victims, and we see very few random victims.”

As the investigation progresses and her sister heals, Givens has requested prayers.

“It’s going to be alright,” she expressed. “We’re going to just go. Whatever we’ve got to do, we’re just going to do to make sure my sister is OK and can come home. I don’t know. I don’t even know. It’s just crazy.”
