Two arrested after high-speed chase from Gates to Rochester’s west side

Rochester, New York – A police chase that spanned from Gates to Rochester’s west side culminated in the arrest of two individuals on Tuesday. The pursuit originated with a theft incident in Gates, prompting a swift response from law enforcement agencies.

The sequence of events leading to the high-speed chase began with a reported theft at the Dollar Tree on Spencerport Road in Gates. Officers received a dispatch call indicating a shoplifting and ongoing larceny involving two individuals. As officers raced to the scene, a Gates Police sergeant attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Buffalo Road. However, the vehicle refused to halt and instead accelerated, initiating the pursuit.

The intense chase eventually reached Jay Street in the city of Rochester, where it came to a crashing conclusion. The fleeing vehicle collided with multiple police vehicles, causing damage to two Gates patrol vehicles and one New York State Trooper vehicle. Fortunately, no law enforcement officers sustained injuries during the incident.

Further investigation revealed that the involved vehicle had been reported as stolen. The driver and passenger, identified as the suspects in the Dollar Tree theft, were apprehended by authorities. Medical staff evaluated the driver for any injuries resulting from the collision.

Gregory Brandon, 41, of Rochester, who served as the driver, faced serious charges following his arrest. These included first-degree reckless endangerment and several misdemeanors such as petit larceny, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. With seven prior misdemeanor convictions, Brandon was remanded to the Monroe County Jail without the option of bail.

The passenger, Riley VanBrederode, 30, also of Rochester, faced charges of petit larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. She had multiple active warrants, although she lacked previous convictions. VanBrederode was remanded to the Monroe County Jail with bail set at $2,000 cash, $6,000 bond, or $15,000 partially secured bond.

This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining public safety and apprehending suspects involved in criminal activities.
