9/11 observances to be held in Rochester area Monday
Multiple local events will mark the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks this Monday morning.
Once again, MCC is set to conduct a commemorative ceremony from 8 to 9 a.m. near the PAC Center on campus.
A significant moment will occur at 8:45 a.m. when the sun aligns precisely with the MCC 9/11 monument, creating a shadow resembling the Twin Towers. A minute of silence is scheduled for 8:46.
RIT will host its 9/11 Memorial Vigil at 8:15 a.m. adjacent to the Student Alumni Union, near the prominent Sentinel statue at the campus center.
A poignant tribute of 2,977 flags, symbolizing each life lost in the attacks, will be displayed.
Various fire departments, including those from Rochester, Brockport, Irondequoit, Manchester, and Shortsville, are organizing their own tribute events.
The Veterans Outreach Center is preparing “Operation: We Remember” at Highland Park, in front of the War on Terror Memorial, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Good Day Rochester plans to telecast significant moments from the MCC ceremony, while 13WHAM will provide ongoing coverage of the various events throughout the day.
