Rochester residents advised to prepare for snowy weather conditions

Rochester, New York – The Rochester area is preparing for a significant shift in weather as rain turns into snow, with up to 5 inches expected, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued

Meteorologist Steve Welch from the National Weather Service has forecasted that most areas in the region can expect to see 2 to 4 inches of snow. Higher elevations, particularly in the Bristol Hills area in Ontario County, could see up to 5 inches. Welch also mentioned the possibility of a bit of lake-enhanced snow. In response to these predictions, the Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Monroe, Ontario, and Wayne counties. This advisory is set to start at 1 a.m. Tuesday and will continue through 1 p.m.

The transition from rain to snow, which is expected to begin late on Monday, is attributed to colder air moving into the region. This change in weather conditions is likely to make the Tuesday morning commute challenging, with some roads expected to be covered in snow.

Seasonal Snowfall Data

This season, the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport in Rochester has recorded 6.7 inches of snow, as per the Weather Service data. To put this in perspective, Rochester experienced a total of 50.4 inches of snow last winter, with March being the snowiest month. Although measurable snowfall typically starts in November in the region, there are occasions when flurries occur as early as October and as late as May.

Residents are advised to exercise caution and prepare for the winter conditions, particularly during the morning commute on Tuesday, as the region braces for the new snowfall.
