Woman injured in attempt to prevent car theft at McDonald’s

Rochester, New York – A woman suffered injuries while trying to thwart the theft of her car at a McDonald’s parking lot. Rochester Police are currently investigating the case, which led to an arrest and charges against the suspected thief.

The incident unfolded just after 8:30 AM on Monday, when a woman in her 30s briefly left her vehicle running to enter the McDonald’s at 420 Monroe Ave. Upon noticing someone trying to steal her car, she rushed outside in an attempt to stop the theft. Tragically, during her intervention, she was dragged a short distance by the car as the thief sped away. She sustained a non-life-threatening lower body injury and was subsequently treated at Strong Memorial Hospital.

In a quick response, the stolen vehicle was found a short time later on Hillside Avenue in Brighton. Brighton Police apprehended the suspect, 29-year-old Omar Boulama. He faces multiple charges, including robbery and assault in the second degree and fourth-degree grand larceny.

Boulama is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday in Rochester City Court. This incident serves as a cautionary tale about the risks of leaving vehicles unattended, even for brief moments, and the potential dangers of confronting criminals in the act. The prompt actions of law enforcement led to the quick resolution of the case and the suspect’s arrest.
