Mayor Malik Evans discussed Rochester crime and public safety

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — These midterm elections will be defined by a pair of issues: improvements to the criminal justice system and violent crime.

In Rochester, the number of violent crimes, including homicides, has gone down in the month of October.

The state of emergency that his administration declared due to the city’s high rate of gun violence was extended for a third time by Mayor Malik Evans. As of right now, there have been 68 people murdered in the city of Rochester thus far in 2018.

This proclamation is accompanied by a large investment in the younger generation. With help from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a new generation of groups and programs are being created to help young people go in the right direction.
