Nancy Pelosi refused to speculate on her future in the Democratic Party

Current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refuses to speculate on her future as the Democrats’ narrow majority in the House is in danger of disappearing after the next midterm elections.

Pelosi was asked by the anchor of CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Margaret Brennan, whether she expected to continue in her party’s leadership in the next Congress. However, the California Democrat declined to address the matter during their interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday.

“I’m not talking about that,” Pelosi said. “I’m here to talk about how we win the election.”

Brennan pursued the issue, questioning whether it indicated that Pelosi would continue as the party’s leader.Pelosi refused to either confirm nor reject the report.

“I’m not here to talk about me, I’m here to talk about the future, America’s working families, for the children. It’s always about the children,” Pelosi said, switching subjects.

Following the reluctance of leaders to bring up legislation that would impose stricter stock trading limits on members of Congress, Democratic Representative Abigail Spanberger of Virginia called for a change at the top of the month of September.

“This moment marks a failure of House leadership—and it’s yet another example of why I believe that the Democratic Party needs new leaders in the halls of Capitol Hill,” she said, adding that Pelosi and others “chose to ignore these voices, push them aside, and look for new ways they could string the media and the public along.”

A larger challenge to her position as speaker comes, of course, from Republicans, since the GOP is threatening to regain control of the House and, as a consequence, the speakership. Republicans pose a greater threat to her position than any other party. According to the most recent Fox News Power Rankings, Republicans are expected to win 15 seats in the House of Representatives, which would give them a majority.
